Goodbye Zippy

Today we bid farewell to Zippy. Mollie cheerfully and unselfishly bottle fed this little guy for the last 12 weeks. I am a beaming proud mom (as I've stated before) at her attitude and dedication to her animals. It was a little sad to see him go but we have two others to keep us busy and they won't be leaving when they are weaned, they will joing our "herd". Good job Mollie, Mama and Dad are so proud of you!

Zippy and Mollie saying goodbyes.

Zippy loaded and ready for his short ride to the neighbors.

Mollie NOT happy about Zippy leaving

In order to cheer her up I suggested we move "the girls" into the small pasture Zippy had been in. Later I found that Mollie had been sitting with them. It's amazing how tolerate they are, especially Glitter. She doesn't mind Mollie hanging all over her. I think she rather likes it!

Strike and Spare

We took the kids bowling yesterday and had a fun time. We all are expert bowlers. Just look at our style and form, which resulted in many strikes and spares (well maybe just a couple!). Actually only one of us broke 100...just barely!

The Deer Are Trembling!

Jerry and Mollie set out to deer hunt this afternoon. Mollie was pretty excited to "shoot a deer and hang its head on the wall". Should we send her for counseling? Maybe re-evaluate our parenting skills?!! Anyway, Daddy gave her a hunters orange hat to wear that we got a kick out of. It says, "Deer tremble when they hear my name". Mollie...enough to send deer running, quaking in their hooves! If they get one to "hang on the wall", I'll let you know!

November 13: The Date Forever Etched In Our Hearts

I was hoping the words would be here but they aren't. I can't fully express the deep sadness for our family's loss. It's been 2 years today that we said goodbye to the most vivacious woman I've ever met. Though sometimes it seems a million years ago and life has gone on, the memories are so vivid, it as if it was only yesterday. I can hear her laugh as though she is right in the room. My thoughts are on her numerous times a day. I still can't be with her children without shedding a tear. We are forever changed people because of her courage, faith and humor until the end. Tammy Lynn Nagel, I can't wait until we see each other again. Missing you until then.

No More Beans

Our beans came out last week! The yield was incredible and now we can have our fields back! During the summer the beans are planted right up to the timber so we can't ride the 4 wheelers there. Mollie is ready to ride the terraces now that they are clear. I'm sure I'll post pictures soon.

Just Call Me Stubby

Anyone who's seen Butterscotch has probably noticed that he has the best "rear view" of anyone on the property. He has a great, round rump accented by his long, beautiful, thick, blond tail (I'm jealous!) Or should I say HAD!

I was taking pictures of him Saturday and went to pat his butt and pick up his tail and check for burrs. I was just starting to drool with envy over his long locks when I noticed something was amiss. My first thought was that his tail was tucked between his legs when much to my horror I discovered IT WAS GONE, ALL GONE! All that was left was a blond, shaggy stump. Just a hint of it's former glory. Oh, who could have done such a dastardly deed? He wouldn't give up the secret so I had to start investigating. I had put Butterscotch in with my precious, sweet (?) Mary and Martha just a couple of days before so it either had to be them or someone seeking revenge on my 5 year old daughter. I quickly decided there was no one that hated us enough to do something so cruel so it had to be Mary or Martha. It must have been building up for days and they finally cracked. I should have noticed that those black donkeys had a green cast to their coat. They gave into their jealousy and destroyed the very thing they envied the most... his tail. I new they must have felt it was unfair, them being girls with short, sparse, broomstick like tails and he being A BOY and endowed with such beautiful, thick, blond locks. He even has the long eyelashes to boot! It was probably enough to send any female over the edge. Needless to say, the culprits were banished to solitary confinement while Butterscotch is left to contiplate his new name and figure out how he is going to grow back his tail in less than 2 years! Good luck Stubby, it's going to be a long haul!

This is the before picture, as you can see anyone would be jealous of those long locks!

This is after... yes we have now changed his name to Stubby, there is no other way of describing the mutilation.

The culprits. Oh yes, they LOOK sweet and innocent!
